The journey

From a Google Sheet to 3,000+ events

01

The first LA Tech Week came together in six weeks

We had no playbook, and the entire tech stack was a Google Sheet! Thirty events made it onto that first calendar.

02

By the end of the week, there were hundreds

People flew in from the East Coast, Europe, and the Middle East. A "GP surf session" became one of the most talked-about moments of the week.

03

Fast forward to last year

Over 100,000 people attended a tech week event. With over 3,000 events on the calendar across NY, SF, and LA, it became one of the largest concentrations of founders, engineers, and investors all year.

04

Formats

Event formats we’re looking for this year

More rooms for builders

Hackathons & build challenges

We had 48 hackathons across Tech Week last year. But there’s demand for more.

  • /Focus on who’s in the room.
  • /Tight problems work.
  • /Break the format.
Speakers create gravity

High-quality speaker panels

Speaker-led events have been one of the most reliable ways to fill a room. The right speakers pull.

  • /Lock your speakers in early.
  • /Be explicit about who they are.
  • /A recognizable name makes the decision easier.
Show the work

Factory tours, launch events, & demo days

Tech Week concentrates attention. If you're launching something, this is when to do it.

  • /The takeaway: design an event that shows (not only tells)
  • /Tech Week is the time to show it off.
  • /Show off what they’ve built to investors.
Design around the room

Investor, Founder, and Vertical-Specific Events

Some of the most valuable Tech Week events are built around who you want in the room. That's when the right room matters most.

  • /Investor-only dinners.
  • /Founder knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • /Vertical-specific gatherings.
